National Life Chain Sunday:
Sunday, October 5, 2008
2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Life Chain -- What is it?

The Life Chain is a call to Christian churches to mobilize against an abortion holocaust that, through surgical abortions alone, each year claims over 1.2 million American lives and over 60 million lives wordwide. Abortifacient deaths will far exceed even those grim numbers.

The Life Chain commonly occupies both sides of a downtown street, where the traffic is slow and heavy. Life partners, standing or kneeling on the sidewalk out of the way of both foot and vehicular traffic and 10 to 50 feet apart, silently and prayerfully hold signs urging an end to abortion. The chain lasts for one hour.

    What Else Can I Do?

Support a Prolife Presidential Candidate.  During the primaries, the only argument on abortion between Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama was which one is more radically antilife.  Based on his opposition to laws that would provide protection for babies that are born alive, I think Obama "wins" this one.  Obama has pledged that he will only appoint proabortion judges who will affirm the infamous Roe v Wade ruling that prevents the government from protecting the lives of unborn babies  and that he will promote and sign federal laws overturning even the weak current laws in states that try to provide some protection to babies and mothers.

John McCain, who has the pledged delegates needed to be nominated by the Republicans, has a long, solid, and sincere, if not perfect, record of voting prolife, condemns Roe v Wade, and has pledged to appoint judges who will not impose their opinions on the country in the guise of constitutional interpretation.  If he is elected, there is a chance that soon states will again have the power to protect millions of innocent lives.  If he is not, things look pretty bleak for the next few decades.  If you are prolife, you cannot afford to sit out this election.

Support Proposition 4 (Sarah's Law).  Sarah's Law was named after a 15 year old girl who died from complications from a legal abortion because her parents did not know that the abortion had been performed on her and were therefore unable to help her quickly enough when fatal complications set in.  It requires that abortionists notify a parent or other relative before performing an abortion on a minor.  The notice can be dispensed with by order of a judge.  Most minors who have abortions were impregnated by older men, averaging in their twenties, but currently most abortionists pretend not to know this, in order to avoid current laws requiring them to report the suspected sexual abuse of children.  Often, the abuser is the one who pays for the abortion and transports the child to and from the abortion mill, so that he can continue his abuse.  By requiring notification, this law will save many children from abuse, disease, and death, both from the abortion itself, and from the risks, like AIDS, that are inherent in the abusive relationship.

Support Proposition 8 (the Defense of Marriage Act).  This is the proposition that would amend California's constitution to protect the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman.  Every attack on the family is an attack on life.  We would not have legalized abortion today if the way hadn't been paved by a century of attacks on the family in the form of divorce, sexual immorality, and contraception.  If this proposition does not pass, we will soon see churches and individuals sued and prosecuted for preaching the truth about sodomy.  It is already happening in Canada and elsewhere.  It will happen here next if we don't prevent it.

Join Us in Prayer at the Clinics.  Most women who choose abortion say they do so because they feel they have no other choice. Many lack emotional, moral, and other support they need to say yes to life. You can help by joining us at the clinics. You can receive training to become a sidewalk counselor or simply join us in prayer. Babies are being saved, and you can be a part of it right now.  Prayer is generally scheduled for times at when women are arriving at the clinics and abortions are actually being performed.  If you like, you can download an informational brochure that is distributed by sidewalk counselors at the clinics.
Join a Prolife Prayer Team.  Members of the prolife prayer team sponsored by Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Auburn are asked to pray specifically for life at least once a week, and are given several suggestions for both private and group prayer.  For more information or to join the team, contact Vic at vicalb@starstream.net

Come to a Prolife Mass or Prayer Meeting.

    Terry Schiavo Videos

Terry Schiavo was a handicapped but otherwise healthy and apparently conscious woman who was starved to death by being deprived of food and water, which she got by means of a feeding tube, since she was unable to swallow. You might have seen statements in the press about her allegedly vegetative state. You may think otherwise after seeing the streaming videos on this page.

We would like to recognize and present very briefly some of the Prolife organizations in the Sacramento area so that you would be aware of them, pray for them, and support them as you can. This is not necessarily a complete listing. If you know of others, please send them along.
